Atari to Launch 500 Limited Edition NFTs

• Atari has revealed it’ll be dropping 500 packs of limited-edition collectibles
• Scheduled to be released next week, the NFTs will be available on DYLI, an e-commerce platform
• The collection will feature rare collectibles with some bearing the Atari founder’s signature

Atari, a retro game publisher, will launch a limited edition NFT collection with 500 packs of collectibles as part of its web3 exploration journey. Atari will launch the collection in partnership with blockchain-based e-commerce platform DYLI, with the NFTs powered by a yet-to-be-launched Ethereum layer 2 Abstract Chain. Each pack will have a few collectibles featuring gift cards, stickers, and a special card signed by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, a sign that Atari wants to bring retro game lovers to the virtual world.

NFT Packs Contain “Vintage Watches”

According to a description on DYLI’s website, the collection is Atari’s way to celebrate its “rich history.” The website disclosed that each pack will have a new Atari patch or “vintage patches from the 1980s.”

Each pack may include rare items like stickers, gift cards, and one special item signed by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell. 👀

DYLI’s founder Alex Needelman said that the collection is part of “partner drops” meant to bring the next million users to the blockchain world while also offering creator-focused tools and “cool stuff” for collectors.

The DYLI co-founder had previously said that products listed on the marketplace are tradable and redeemable NFTs. All the transactions on the marketplace are gassless and users can choose to make purchases using credit cards or cryptocurrencies.

Atari Joins Razer and Ubisoft in Web3 Exploration

Atari hasn’t disclosed the date when the collection will drop, only saying it’ll be launched next week. The collection isn’t Atari’s first foray into web3. The firm has in the past collaborated with The Sandbox and other blockchain-focussed entities to explore the crypto and virtual worlds.

The retro game publisher joins other traditional gaming-focused firms exploring the blockchain world. Gaming hardware heavyweight Razer, for example, has in the past launched the zVentures Web3 Incubator platform to support blockchain game developers. Others like Ubisoft have launched NFT games.

With Atari increasing its web3 exploration with an NFT collection, it’s to be seen whether it’ll launch a retro NFT game.
