- Square Enix’s web3 game SYMBIOGENESIS has found a new home on Soneium

Square Enix’s web3 game SYMBIOGENESIS has found a new home on Sony’s Soneium blockchain, a few weeks before its scheduled shutdown in July 2025. Soneium noted that the move will help the game to further its mission “to craft unforgettable stories, worlds, and genres.” It also revealed that players will receive NFT rewards after completing time-sensitive quests, something that may help attract players to the game.
Courting Entertainment Giants and Game Studios
In a statement, Soneium said the move is part of a campaign to bring more entertainment giants and game studios to the blockchain to boost their collaboration and connection with “a new generation of builders.”

Soneium noted that SYMBIOGENESIS’s arrival on the network allows it to “open a new chapter in its story,” adding that it allows it to collaborate with popular Soneium games like Evermoon and Sleepgotchi.
According to the Sony-backed blockchain, commemorative NFTs earned by gamers for completing quests on SYMBIOGENESIS will unlock extra benefits in the other two games. Some of the benefits include exclusive community mission perks, rare one-horned dragon characters on Sleepgotchi, and early access to Beta features on Evermoon.
Soneium clarified that Sleepgotchi and Evermoon are independent games with their “own flavor of reward[s],” but linked to SYMBIOGENESIS through a shared collectible.
No Following on Polygon?
The Tomb Raider developer launched SYMBIOGENESIS in late 2023 on Ethereum layer 2 Polygon. The game, however, struggled to attract a sizeable following and only has roughly 550 unique holders of its NFT collection, which has 10,000 collectibles.
SYMBIOGENESIS’s weak takeoff isn’t an isolated case since other web3 games and NFT projects are also shutting down due to low revenues and a lack of user engagement.
With SYMBIOGENESIS moving to Soneium, it’s to be seen whether it’ll attract more active users to the game.
