In last night’s (23rd April) Pakistan Super League (PSL) game, we saw something that you don’t really witness too often in professional cricket. It was Multan Sultans vs Islamabad United in this PSL 2025 game, and the former had set an average total of 168/5 in their 20 overs. Now during the chase, an interesting turn of events happened.
New Zealand’s Colin Munro, who has been an integral part of this competition over the years, accused the bowler Iftikhar Ahmed of chucking. For those who don’t know, chucking while bowling is essentially ‘throwing’ which means there’s a bend in the arm while bowling, which gives the bowlers an advantage and hence is considered illegal in the game of cricket.
Iftikhar Ahmed throwing in PSL 2025?
It was the 10th over of the chase and Islamabad United were cruising with two set batters at the crease in Munro and Andries Gous. Iftikhar came on to bowl his first over and after Munro hit him over the covers for four on the second ball, he fired in a yorker on the third ball of the over. That’s when the incident happened of being accused of throwing, which you can see below:

Munro mimicked a cheating action and that enraged the Pakistani all-rounder, who said a few words back to Munro, and then charged towards the on-field umpire to ask him a few questions as well. In the mean-time, Multan captain Mohammad Rizwan stepped in to say a few words to Munro as well, as a few seconds of madness prevailed on the ground.

He fired in another yorker on the fourth ball and Munro continued to get under his skin, with the same mimicking action of chucking done again. This time, Iftikhar kept his cool. Eventually, Michael Bracewell dismissed Munro and it so happened that the catch was taken by Iftikhar itself, which means justice was delivered only a few moments later, and even the PSL official account tweeted about the incident:

Now we can come to the main question of whether or not Iftikhar was really chucking during the game. The umpires didn’t call a no ball, neither was there any scrutiny after the game, so we can say he’s safe for now. But a lot of users on social media claim there was a bend of more than 15 degrees while bowling, which can be considered illegal in cricket.
So while it wasn’t called during the game, we think umpires will be looking into his action in future games during the PSL 2025 season. Don’t be surprised if more batters call him out for his action in matches to come. For more updates from the Pakistan Super League, remember to always keep coming back to ReadScoops.com.
